Tumble dyers are becoming widely sought after domestic appliances when lifestyles have undergone substantial changes. Home makers are finding it difficult to devote sufficient time for washing and drying clothes in the midst of hectic work schedules both at home and in workplace. Apart from the difficulties to carry out such chores physically, climatic conditions also create situations which are not conducive for natural drying of clothes.
In winters and monsoons when the atmosphere is humid, drying clothes become very problematic. The emerging situations force people to opt for not only washing machines but also tumble dryers. When the use became prevalent the consuming public experiences some problems also. Many of such problems may be of minor nature and some of the users will be able to fix them without hassles. The following are some of the common problems confronting the users very often:
1.Tumble dryer is not starting when switched on: The moment the user sees a machine not running after switching on the same, anxiety and tension will be the natural reaction. Very often the cause of the problem will be a defective power socket or plug point. It is therefore necessary to check the peripherals first before going deep into the system. Defective power points or power cord can disrupt the power supply. In case it is not the reason, then the next check point should be fuse in the circuit board. A tripped fuse may be the cause of the problem. But even after providing a new fuse, if the problem persists it should be concluded that it is a faulty component in the circuit which makes the fuse trip again. A broken door micro switch may also be the reason for the problem.
2.The drum does not move or rotate: There can be multiple causes for this problem. Most probably it can be a broken belt. In that case the belt is to be replaced. Another possible reason will be a defective motor. At times the motor may be good, but it is the capacitor which activates the motor may be the defective one. In all these cases, symptoms may be the same. So it is necessary to summon service personnel to identify the real cause of the problem. It will be necessary to open the panels and fix the belts. On the other hand if the motor or capacitor is defective, they have to be dismantled and to be rectified.
3.The dryer is not reaching required temperature: As a result of this the clothes will not get dried despite the continuous running of the machine. The possible reason must be a defective thermostat or cut outs. The failure of the heating element is also very common. This can happen due to voltage fluctuations also. But as they are incorporated with thermal fuses, in all probability fuse will trip in the event of power supply problems. In some models it is easier to remove the back panel and change the tripped fuse or thermostat.
Even though some of the problems can be fixed easily, it all depends on the aptitude of the person who handles it. As an electrical appliance the users should exercise caution while opening the system or trying to fix the problems. If not fully conversant with the types of work involved, it will be safer to call service personnel to attend the machine.
