PROBLEMS THAT ARE NOT UNUSUAL IN TUMBLE DRYERS

problems PROBLEMS THAT ARE NOT UNUSUAL IN TUMBLE DRYERSThe technology behind the tumble dryer is not a very complex one. Moisture or water content will be absorbed and removed to make the clothes dry. The only difference between the vent type and the condenser type is that the former use dry and hot air whereas later use steam. In the vent type tumble dryer, hose pipes are provided to exhaust the humid hot air. But in the condenser type steam and water will be collected in a container.

In simple terms, the core difference is that the first one is using method of evaporation and the second one is using condensation. But for these differences the design and construction of both types of tumble dryers are identical. Therefore problems occurring in both types are also identical. It is not very difficult for users to diagnose the problems that usually afflict the dryers, provided they have understood the basic principles on which the machines work.

Generally these machines continue to work without serious problems for many years. However few minor issues may develop which can be fixed easily. The following are some of the steps to be taken to identify the lapses.

1.Check whether power supply is available at the supply point. At times indicator light will be burning, but the supply may not be through.

2.At this stage check the socket, plug point and power cable to ensure the supply of power to them. In case there is no power supply through the plug point and cable either of the above must be defective.tumble dryers 1 PROBLEMS THAT ARE NOT UNUSUAL IN TUMBLE DRYERS

3.On the other hand if nothing is found wrong in the above points and still the machine is not working, it is necessary to check the 13 amp fuse. If the fuse is tripped it is to be replaced. But at times the fuse may again trip as soon as the dryer is switched on. This is an indication that some serious defect is lingering in the system causing short circuit. It is necessary to seek the service of the professionals to investigate and fix the problem.

4.Another problem usually occurs is in the door switch. The micro switch itself can fail or the door catch which operates the switch may become defective and incapable of operating it. Unless the catch activates the switch it will not work. Inspect both the door catch and switch before going deep into the problem.

5.Tumble dryers are generally belt driven. The belt may become weak because of wear and tear. At times it will become loose and slippery and will be broken. As a third possibility it will slip out from drum and fall down to the bottom of the dryer. It is to be ascertained what is the real cause of breakdown before trying to fix it.

6.A seized drum is yet another usual problem that occurs in tumble dryer. It is necessary to open the lid and inspect in order to identify the real cause of the problem. Such a situation can happen if there is no proper lubrication in the system. Removing the belt and drum is an expert mechanic’s job. Unless the jammed drum is carefully handled it may tend to break or get damaged.
